My weather journey…
Mackenzie’s passion for weather began early, growing up just down the road from the famous Punxsutawney Phil in a family of weather enthusiasts. A pivotal moment came after high school, when she witnessed the devastation of the EF5 tornado in Joplin, Missouri while traveling for a summer camp job. That life-changing experience inspired her to pursue a career in meteorology, with a mission to be a voice of safety for others.
She went on to graduate from The Ohio State University, where she was an active member of the Meteorology Club and the Central Ohio Chapter of the National Weather Association. During college, she and her classmates traveled to Moore, Oklahoma to help rebuild homes following the devastating 2013 tornado outbreak.
Mackenzie gained valuable on-air experience through internships at WPXI in Pittsburgh, 10TV in Columbus, and The Weather Channel in Atlanta, Georgia.
In 2014, while serving as Miss Ohio, Mackenzie had the unique opportunity to deliver the forecast on The Today Show with Al Roker and Good Morning America with Ginger Zee — a dream come true for a lifelong weather lover.
She began her broadcasting career in Fort Myers, Florida, as the weekend morning meteorologist at ABC7. There, she covered several major storms, including Hurricanes Irma and Dorian. Mackenzie also showcased her storytelling skills as a feature reporter, highlighting local businesses and community events during the weekday morning show.
In 2019, she returned to her alma mater city of Columbus, Ohio, to work as the weekend morning meteorologist at 10TV WBNS. Her coverage included numerous snowstorms and severe weather outbreaks, and she was honored with an Emmy Award from the Ohio Valley Chapter.
Today, Mackenzie brings her weather expertise to Cleveland, Ohio, as part of the Fox 8 WJW team. You can catch her weekday evenings during the 5, 7, and 10 p.m. newscasts — forecasting everything from severe outbreaks to lake-effect snow.
